Allegory Art Collective is proud to present Sewing Seeds, a solo exhibition featuring the work of Gabriela Gomez-Misserian.
Sewing Seeds celebrates the movement that comes after a period of rest and waiting. When the warmth of spring arrives, and the soil and sunlight are just right, the gardener tucks seeds into the dirt. As a gardener and artist drawn to the beauty of the natural world, Gomez-Misserian works seasonally: Winter is a time to recharge, take stock and gather inspiration, and be still—simultaneously, beneath the surface of the earth, the flowers self-seed, deepen their roots, and rest. Spring is a harbinger of growth, color, and movement, where ideas unfurl with the same energy as a plant’s first pea-green shoots peeking out of the ground.
The artwork in Sewing Seeds revels in the beauty of collaborating with the land. Gathering inspiration from her garden, Gomez-Misserian works outside to capture the beauty of swaying bee blossoms, swirling Appalachian sunflowers, and magical purple passion flowers. She collects textures, shapes, and colors from Hampton Park, neighbors’ yards, and Corrine Jones and its rows of happy vegetables, flowers, and vines at her local community garden. The result is a body of playful, expressive graphite drawings, acrylic and watercolor paintings, and Japanese watercolor monotypes that manifest as a love letter to the land.
All work exhibited in Sewing Seeds will be featured both in person and online.
