Gabriela Gomez-Misserian is a visual artist based in Charleston, South Carolina.

Her studio work imbues slow living with whimsy, familiarity, and warmth. She embraces imperfection in her practice: Expressive and wonky lines vibrate with movement and character, and paintings and drawings reinterpret personal memories of strolling through verdant Southern gardens, native coastal ecosystems, farmers’ markets, historic Charleston neighborhoods, and cozy interiors.

Gabriela is a full-time digital producer and writer at Garden & Gun magazine, a field guide to the soul of the South. She tells stories about visual artists across the region, including the Caddo sculptor Raven Halfmoon, the stick man Patrick Dougherty, New Orleans’ naturalist and painter Ida Floreak, Alabama’s renowned multimedia artist Thornton Dial, the prolific creator Lonnie Holley, and environmental activist and artist Hannah Chalew. Read her newsletter, Hopscotch, which taps into her native gardening, art inspirations, and film photography.

Gabriela is a native of Spartanburg, South Carolina, and spent four years in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Lexington, Virginia. Now, she lives full-time in the Carolina Lowcountry with her golden retriever rescue, Clementine.
