“Tangles of Flowers” is a series of intimate, atmospheric botanical portraits. Made in collaboration with the artist’s garden, each mixed media work references flowers native to the South Carolina Lowcountry, documenting the energetic form, color, and essence of species growing in natural places with abandon. Part of Gabriela’s practice is to grow, closely observe, and honor the individuality and magical spirit of each specimen, archiving its spirit and how each flourishes when its right where it’s supposed to be—namely during a time when our natural world is under threat from destruction and development.
